Dr Sunil Katyal, President IMA Punjab strongly condemns the attack on Dr. Sunil Bhagat, a renowned surgeon and SMO ESI Hospital, Hoshiarpur on 17/04/2024. The incident happened when Dr Bhagat stopped a relative of the patient from making the video in the hospital. The relative attacked Dr Bhagat who received grave injuries and was shifted to a private hospital in Hoshiarpur in an unconscious condition. He also raised the serious concern about the safety of doctors and paramedical staff, while on work, where the relatives of the patient take the law of land in their hands.

Dr Manoj Sobti, Convener IMA Punjab and Member Punjab Medical Council while condemning the brutal attack on the doctor said that as Dr. Sunil Bhagat condition was very serious so he was shifted to DMCH, Ludhiana from Hoshiarpur where he is fighting for his life and is on ventilator support. He said that the guilty should be punished strictly according to the law and these kinds of inhuman and unruly behavior against the doctors will not be tolerated.

Dr Sunil Katyal, Dr Manoj K Sobti and Dr Pritpal Singh visited the DMC Hospital to enquire about the Condition of Dr Bhagat. They met the Dr Bishav Mohan Consultant In charge who informed them Patient is still very serious but maintaining his vitals and he still on Ventilator. They also met Dr Anoop, brother in law of Dr Bhagat, his daughter Dr Palak and niece Dr Anupriya and assured them of all kinds of full support. Dr Baljit S Johal, Secretary IMA Punjab, Dr Dheeraj Aggarwal, Assistant Secretary IMA Punjab and Dr P S Jassal, Honorary joint Secretary, IMA Punjab thanked Health Minister, Dr Balbir Singh for his timely intervention in this case to get the FIR registered under section 307 against the accused, personally supervising the treatment given to Dr Sunil Bhagat and providing green corridor while shifting Dr bhagat from Hoshiarpur to Ludhiana in a very serious condition.
