Lehragaga, June 16 The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur, of Punjab Agricultural University organized a specialized training camp for Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) at village Ghorenab, block Lehragaga, under the ongoing “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” with active support from NABARD. At the start, Dr. Mandeep Singh, In-charge of PAU-KVK Sangrur, gave detailed information on the objectives of the National Level Campaign \'Khet Bachao Abhiyan\" and the various activities being carried out under it. He urged the FPOs to spread the message amongst farmers about recommended agricultural techniques for kharif crops and the balanced use of fertilizers in crops. He also informed them about the different facilities and services provided by PAU-KVK Sangrur for farmers’ welfare. He appealed to not to apply phosphorus fertilizers in paddy and basmati crops and shared important tips on saving urea through the use of green manure crops. Dr. Rukinderpreet Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), emphasized improving soil health by using not only chemical fertilizers but also farmyard manure, green manure, bio-fertilizers, and by incorporating crop residue into the field. He shared detailed information on scientific nutrient management in paddy and basmati, and explained the scientific method of collecting soil samples from the field. He also provided guidance on preventing dwarfing virurs disease in paddy and on effective weed management in paddy and basmati. Munish Gupta, District Development Manager, NABARD, Sangrur, gave information about the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) scheme. He also explained how to report bank fraud related to bank accounts and ATM cards immediately to bank officials, and shared the customer care number. Surmukh Singh, District Manager, Lead Bank, State Bank of India, Sangrur, encouraged farmers to form FPOs to access better agricultural services and reduce farming costs. He also shared details on the process and benefits of forming a Farmer Producer Organization. Dr. Kulwant Singh, Agriculture Development Officer, Lehragaga, provided information on direct seeding of paddy, kharif maize, Bt cotton, and the use of gypsum, along with details of the subsidies available on these. At the end of the camp, Hushiar Singh, Director, Genius Farmer Producer Organization, Lehragaga, thanked the agricultural experts and NABARD officials. He expressed confidence that the learnings from today’s camp would be shared with other farmers with full dedication. Also present on the occasion were Karamjit Singh, Jagtar Singh, Sardul Singh, and Nazar Singh, Directors of Genius Krishi Seva Center. Sarpanch Lakhbir Singh and Paramjit Singh were also specially present. Finally, experts from PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur inspected paddy nursery, silage maize, and summer moong, and gave valuable suggestions for scientific management.
